Frequently Asked Questions

Click on each of the questions below and you will be directed to the answer.

Q: What kind of boats do you have?

A: We have several different boats to choose from. All of our boats are Coast Guard approved.

  • Boston Whalers: 17' long, open, uncovered, very safe. (1-2 guests per boat)
  • Cruisers: covered, comfortable, fully equipped with washroom facilities: a 22' Campion Explorer 602 Sport, and a 22' Chris Craft. (1-4 guests per boat)

Q: Do you have non-smoking facilities?

A: All of our rooms are non-smoking rooms.

Q: Are pets welcome at your lodge?

A: Yes, we are pet friendly. Please contact us for details.

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: We suggest the following:

  • Your typical clothing required for your length of stay, such as pants, jacket, t-shirts, shorts, etc.
  • sweater for layering, if needed
  • hat for the sun, sunglasses and sunscreen
  • camera, video camera and/or binoculars
  • identification for Customs Canada, if required; and also for your fishing license(s).
  • all weather gear and tackle (if you wish. We do provide this free of charge.)
  • cell phones work in our Campbell River location but do not work in Bute Inlet.

Q: Are fishing licenses included?

A: No, they are an extra charge based on the duration of stay and whether you are a resident of Canada or not, and whether you wish to retain your catch. We do sell them at our front desk for our guests and we are happy to answer any questions you have regarding them. You will need to have the license on your person at all times when you are fishing. If you are freshwater fishing as well, it is a separate license required.

Q: Does my fishing license work for both Campbell River and in Bute Inlet?

A: In most cases, yes it will, unless you have chosen the Combo Fishing Package, which involves two different licenses, one each for fresh water and for tidal water. Each license is for the province for the duration of time you have purchased.

Q: How much experience does your fishing guides have?

A: All of our guides have several years of guiding experience and are fully equipped with the best gear to ensure you have the fishing experience of a lifetime. Our guides do this for a living and are on the water every day so they know the waters, the conditions and the migratory patterns of the fish and bait. We will take you to the fish.

Q: How do we get our catch home?

A: The guide will clean and package your catch for you. As a guest at our Lodge, we will store your catch in our fish freezers until your departure. If you would like your fish processed in any way or shipped, we can suggest someone locally, but we do not do it ourselves. There are strict government regulations regarding this procedure and only specific facilities are licensed by the Canadian government.

Q: Is there a guarantee to catch fish?

A: We do our best to ensure a catch for you but there are no guarantees in sport fishing, that is what makes it a sport. However, we have based our business, for 57 years, sport fishing The Salmon Capital of the World for a reason! Check out our photo gallery. Tight lines!

Q: What kinds of fish can I expect to catch?

A: This question is best answered by viewing our fishing calendar page, since it depends on the time of year and the location you wish to fish.

Though there are many more species of fish available in our waters, we listed the most frequent or most popular species caught.

Q: Why is there an additional cost for bait and how much is it?

A: There is an additional charge for bait only if it is used. At certain times of the year, the water conditions and feeding patterns of the fish dictate whether bait is used or not. The typical cost is $14. Crabs and prawns also require the use of bait.

Q: Do you have a pool? Hot tub? Continental breakfast?

A:
  • Pool - No, we do not have a pool.
  • Hot tub - Yes, we do. It overlooks the Campbell River.
  • Continental Breakfast - Yes, we do. It is available from 7:45 am to 9:30 am (if you are not out fishing!)
